Catching perch on mepps
Perch – a predatory flock of fish, leading a daily lifestyle, is distributed almost everywhere. In the catches of spinning chernozem lands most often found individuals up to 500 grams in weight. Larger specimens are rare.
Going for a perch, it is desirable to have a class 1 or 2 spinning rod 1.80-2.50 meters long with a soft sensitive tip, which allows you to better control the behavior of the baits in the water and make a soft cut. The most suitable for this purpose are hollow carbon-fiber spinning rods with a plug or telescopic connection (“Daiwa” CC-80A, “Daiwa” 276 D-25). They are light enough, durable, practical and allow you to cast light bait over a long distance. Domestic monolithic fiberglass spinning rods are much heavier than carbon fiber ones and, as a rule, have a hard structure, but are unpretentious in operation.
For catching perch with a spinning rod, any inertia-free reel of open or semi-closed type with a small spool is suitable. Nevertheless, preferable high-speed inertia-free coils having a gear ratio of 4: 1 or higher (Orion 001, 002, 003.102; KSBH-7; Ryobi PCX-1; Silstar MX-30).
The optimum diameter of the fishing line is 0.20-0.25 mm. Since when fishing perch with a spinning reel mostly light baits are used, the use of a thicker fishing line affects the casting distance. The line should be wound on a reel so that it does not reach the edge of the spool by 2-3 millimeters. It should be remembered: the deeper the recessed fishing line on the spool, the shorter the casting range of light baits.
At the end of fishing, the fishing line must be dried and straightened on the shore. To do this, having previously cut off the metal leash, you should drag it along the even bank of a hundred meters. When winding the fishing line back onto the spool of the reel, you need to carefully examine the first three meters, which are subjected to the greatest load during casting. If wear is detected, part of the fishing line is cut off.
A metal leash is optional, but when hunting for a perch, sometimes a pike is enough for the lure, and then there is a risk of losing both the bait and the trophy. I prefer to put a steel leash. Fishing stores often sell blued woven two-wire leashes. I untwist them and make them single-core 10-12 centimeters long. The leash is wavy, and therefore it is less susceptible to various deformations and much easier to straighten when bent. There should be a swivel on one end of the leash, and a lure fastener on the other.
Leashes should be tested for strength using a steelyard. To do this, make 10-15 jerks in the sector of 5-6 kilograms.
When catching perch with a spinning reel, a landing net is necessary – with its help it is easier to snatch large specimens. When hunting from a boat, especially in locked areas, it is advisable to have a trailer.
One of the most catching spinning lures that can seduce perch is Mepps spinners with a petal length of up to 6 centimeters. I will dwell briefly on the characteristics of the Aglia, Aglia long, Comet decoree and Lusox series.
The spinners of this series have significant drag in water when the lobe deviates from the axis by 60 degrees. They are quite easy to keep in a given water horizon even with not very fast wiring. Spinners No. 0-3 are most suitable for catching small sections of a reservoir up to 1.5 meters deep, overgrown with aquatic vegetation. Spinners No. 4-5 are used more often in places with a depth of 2 to 5 meters. Aglia spinners are usually caught in places without a noticeable course.
Series “Aglia long”.
These spinners have a small drag in the water and a small deviation of the petal from the axis (30 degrees), so it is better to use them to catch parts of the reservoir from 1 to 8 meters deep with a more or less clean bottom. Spinners “Aglia long” are indispensable for angling.
Series “Comet decoree”.
It is, as it were, an intermediate option between the Aglia and Aglia long series. The deviation of the petal is 45 degrees. Spinners No. 0-3 are more often caught in places of a reservoir with a depth of up to 1.5 meters, No. 4-5 are most suitable for catching depths of up to 5 meters. Spinners of this series are better to use in reservoirs with a weak current or without it.
It is usually used for near-bottom fishing in various bodies of water with a depth of 1.5 meters or more. The spinners of this series are equipped with removable lead heads of various weights, which are selected depending on the depth of the proposed fishing area. Unlike other Mepps spinners, they do not have a core on the spinner axis. The angle of deviation of the petal from the axis is 25 degrees.
The success of any fishing depends on the weather. Good results when fishing perch can be expected on warm cloudy days with little rain. You should count on a good catch with prolonged preservation of warm, but not hot weather.
