Winter roach and scavenger fishing
Today we are on the Vazuz reservoir in the Smolensk region, on the grounds of the Pudyshi base. Our goal will be to catch white fish: we will catch the scavenger, we will try to catch roach.
Especially for catching the scavenger, yesterday we chose a place at a depth of about 9 meters, on the aft table; fed him in advance. In these surroundings, the guys yesterday very well caught the scammer. We also chose the place where the tent stood before us, additionally fed these holes, set up our Maverick quick-setting tent – it’s warm, comfortable, we are waiting for bites.
Catching an undergrowth – as you know, stationary fishing: I’ve fed several holes and you go and check what’s happening and how it works. And if he found working holes, he sat on them and are already doing them tightly. A small primus helps me to get comfortable in the tent, it gives us warmth; and a solar-powered lampion that gives light. Very comfortable, very practical, warm, comfortable, bright.
Catching an undergrowth, as I said, stationary fishing. Therefore, we hope that he will come to the bait, and we will catch it today. Like any other cyprinid fish, the scavenger is definitely worth feeding, and you need to feed it purposefully and correctly. To do this, either pure small bloodworm is used, or it is mixed with dry bait.
In different reservoirs, such a mixture acts differently. Somewhere, the scavenger prefers exceptionally clean bloodworms, somewhere – the presence of dry bait added to bloodworms is very important. We fed both, and so – good, we had the opportunity to do this in advance. Advance feeding and respecting the place of fishing for the scavenger is the most effective. Therefore, it’s possible, of course, to go after a scammer for one day, but this is a lottery. It makes perfect sense to go for 2-3 days, especially when you have a tent at your disposal.
On the street -14º, and in my tent it’s warm, comfortable, I sit without gloves, there is a small primus. Catching the scavenger involves such a stationary placement, so you need to get comfortable. Most often used float equipment. So I have today – two fishing rods and one nod with mormyshka.
A very useful trick is to play along slightly with the jigsaw, moreover, bites can occur both on the tackle itself with the jigsaw, and on the neighboring float. From time to time it is necessary to move the tackle at the bottom, lifting it up slightly, irritating the approaching scavenger. Often immediately after such a simple operation follows a bite. One bite we had at dawn, I caught one scammer until a pause. Soon the next fish will come, it’s not going anywhere.
The place was chosen correctly – on the aft table, at 9 meters depth. So let’s hope that we succeed. The nozzle is a clean, large bloodworm, in a small bunch (from 3 to 5 larvae) on the hook. Here, hook tackle, on the other fishing rod – a small light tungsten mormyshka.
After feeding, about half an hour has passed, it is already dawning. While we do not have bites, it makes full sense in one of the free holes to work with a “little devil”. It can become the very litmus test that will show if there is anyone there, the fish came up or not. In general, such an animation of baits – mormyshka or little devil – provokes the bait quite good enough, which approached the bait. The bite can occur both on the moving bait itself and on a nearby float tackle. This focus more than once or twice brought me success in a variety of reservoirs. Let’s try: a frequent shallow game in the bottom layer.
While there are no bites, apparently, the scammer has not yet approached the bait, and if he did, he does not want to be distracted by the devil. We will wait, try, play and see what it will be. When catching a scavenger, you should never rush anywhere – if the fish is suitable, bites will follow quite often. In the meantime, it’s our business to wait, to experiment. If suddenly there will be no bites in these holes – let’s go to the others. We have several lured groups nearby.
On the left fishing rod I now had a couple of active “moves”, I would even say – half-pecks, the float went from side to side. It makes sense to check the bloodworm, because sometimes with such tricks it can be a small perch that eats the bloodworm right up to the heads, and then we will not wait for the scavenger. Let’s check our nozzle, because the scavenger loves fresh, cool bloodworms.
Some life goes on there, but it seems that this is not a scammer, someone is slowly tugging at the nozzle. Now I’ll wait a minute and check the bloodworm, maybe some small things already eat it up there. We’ll check it now. No, the bloodworm is in order, at its best – hanging on a hook with a tassel.
Please note: my sinkers are distributed in two groups. Two shotguns stand as a replenishment 3 cm above the hook, and the second group is raised higher. This balance of gear is the most sensitive. As soon as the scavenger starts to raise the hook, our sub-reserve will come off from the bottom, and the float will immediately react to this.
